About Island Trial Consulting,LLC

Trial consultants, often referred to as jury consultants, are a relatively new breed of professional. Only since the mid-1970s has trial consulting operated as an independent professional activity. The profession has grown slowly, and even now, fewer than 500 people make their living solely from this work.

David Island, Ph.D. is one of the pioneers in this field. His professional trial consulting career began in 1982, when he worked with attorney Herbert W. Yanowitz, Esquire, on Agarwal v. Bechtel, a case tried in San Francisco County Superior Court. As testimony to the success of that early experience, Mr. Yanowitz remains today one of David Island's most valued clients.

In early 1984 David founded Trial Behavior Consulting, Incorporated and moved the company to San Francisco in 1985. Though he is no longer associated with that company, TBCI continues successfully today under other leadership. In 1995, David joined FTI Consulting, working out of its San Francisco office as its senior trial consultant until FTI closed its San Francisco operation in early 1999.

In May 1999, David founded, organized and began operating Island Trial Consulting, LLC (ITC). He is its manager and principal consultant. ITC offers a wide range of trial consulting services for trial attorneys across the nation. ITC accepts consulting assignments only on civil litigation matters.

Throughout his career as a trial consultant, David Island has been active in the national organization for trial consultants, the American Society of Trial Consultants. (ASTC). He has served on the Board of Directors of the ASTC and was its President in 1986. At almost every annual ASTC conference since 1982, he has delivered papers, served on panels or otherwise volunteered his time, point of view and expertise to the ASTC membership. He is a widely known and highly esteemed member of the profession.

Long-term commitment and high quality work product characterize all that David Island touches. Clients return again and again over the years. Professional relationships thrive and prosper over time. His wide-ranging experience in over 1,000 civil cases underscores the excellence and scope of his work. His enthusiasm and dedication to his clients and their cases never diminish. According to his peers and clients, David Island is the ultimate professional, and he invites you to continue your visit to the ITC web site to shop for ITC services that might be of interest and value to you.

As you view the web site, please keep in mind an important feature of the ITC philosophy: every case does not need a trial consultant. Cases with significant exposure to money damages, cases with bad facts, bad documents and/or difficult witnesses, or other subtle or obvious problems might justify the expense and could profit from the insights that trial consulting services provide. In the new millennium, few important cases advance to trial, however, without benefit of the experience and expertise of a competent trial consultant. ITC precisely provides that competence.
